Esther Bing maintains a Calgary-based piano studio of about 20 students, and is a Piano Examiner with The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). Her university education includes Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Piano Performance from the University of British Columbia and The Boston Conservatory. Notable accomplishments include: a full scholarship to The Boston Conservatory; First Prize (Silver Medal) at the Regina Conservatory of Music; and First Prize in the Regina Kiwanis Festival’s Open Scholarship Competition.
Esther has performed with CPO & ESO musicians at the Columbia Valley Chamber Music Festival, the Instrumental Society of Calgary, and other concerts. She has also recently given a concert at the ProArts Society with Dr. Lana Henchell. Jazz music has always been an interest, and Esther has taken lessons with Derrick Stoll, as well as a Jazz Improvisation course, through Berklee College of Music. Esther is currently serving as President of the Piano Diploma Association (Calgary), and was a Piano Instructor at the Calgary Arts Summer School for many years. She has worked as an adjudicator at several music festivals, including the Saskatchewan Provincial Finals.
For the past few years, Esther has been interested in Natural Movement as it applies to fitness, everyday life, and to piano practice. She has recently certified in MovNat, and is currently enrolled in the ACE Personal Training Certificate Program. Her goal is to help musicians and desk-jockeys live pain-free. She is opening up her own movement studio in January 2020.
Ms. Bing is fluent in French, enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, and cooking. She is currently taking Parkour, and has goals to do 5 dead-hang pull-ups, hold a hand-stand, flip more confidently, and Kong over a piano!
