As each Music Kids session draws to a close, many parents and caregivers wonder what the next best step is for your little one. It is great to chat with your teacher about what is best for your child. Here is a guide to help you decide.
If your 6-24 month old is 2 years old by next session, they may move into our 2 year old class. In these classes we incorporate developmentally appropriate activities using counting, colour and more complex actions to imitate.
If your 2 year old is turning 3 years old by next session, they may move into our 3&4 year old class. This is a ‘parent-free’ class – because your child knows their teacher and our program, it’s a great way to transition your child into being left without a caregiver. In these classes children learn more about rhythms – both creating and recognizing - and develop their skills in following directions.
Parents of older preschoolers, are you wondering what to do next? We have a 4&5 year old class. Throughout the year, your child will learn to read basic notation, solfege (do-re-mi) and complex rhythms. Your child will read and perform real songs following colours, symbols and musical notation.
Parents of older preschoolers, we also offer year round Music Kids private lessons to children ages 3-5. These are 30 minute sessions in the Music Kids room in which children may explore while further enhancing their musical skills and knowledge base in order to prepare them for regular private lessons.
Are you ready to move beyond Music kids? We offer the following programs for older students:
Private lessons: piano, violin, guitar, ukulele, drums, flute, voice, cello and theory
Group Violin: 4 years and up
Group Ukulele: 5 years and up
Piano Club: 5 years and up – must be taking private lessons
